Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of electrical shocks and/or electrical burns: JOBSITE: A DROPLIGHT WAS USED FOR TEMPORARY LIGHTING IN THE MANHOLE. THE END OF THE CORD FOR THE LIGHT HAD ALLIGATOR CLIPS CONNECTED TO THE WIRES. THE "HOT" WIRE WAS ATTACHED TO A NAIL WHICH HAD BEEN HAMMERED INTO ONE OF THE SECONDARY FEEDER CONDUCTORS. THE NEUTRAL AND GROUND WIRES WERE ATTACHED TO A SAFE GROUND ALONG THE WALL OF THE MANHOLE. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS OBTAIN TEMPORARY POWER FOR LIGHTING FROM THE GENERATOR ON THE SERVICE TRUCK.
