Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) On or about 1/11/88, employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by a backing vehicle in that, truck No. 10, a 1979 Mack, Model R-600, and truck No. 12, a 1978 Mack, Model R-600, had an obstructed view to the rear and did not have a reverse signal alarm audible from the surrounding noise, or a signal person did not direct movement of the backing vehicle(s). One feasible and acceptable method of abatement is to install a reverse signal alarm.
