Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death of serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: The hazard of inhalation of potentially levels of tetrachloroethylene which occur as a result of tetrachoroethylene spills caused by an obstruction to the normal flow of tetrachoroethylene in the Speed Queen dry cleaning machine. Feasible and effective abatement can be expected to include, but is not limited to: 1) Assure that the button trap screen, overflow hose, and street L piping are cleared of obstruction periodically, for example, at the end of each shift. 2) Install a device to measure the liquid pressure on the upstream side of the button trap screen to ensure that a tetrachoroethylene spill will not occur. 3) Employee training to include maintenance procedures of the button trap screen, street L piping, overflow hose, and emergencyevacuation procedures.
