Section 5(A)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
Shipping Department: A safety latch was found to be sprung and bent to
one side on a hook that
was being used on a Dayton 1/2 ton hoist. This hook was used to left
motors and some products
that weighed about three hundred pounds or less. This condition exposed
employees to being
struck by lifted items that had possibly fallen from the hook due to a
lack to secure the load on
the hook itself.
One feasible and accepted method of abatement would be to institute
monthly, written checks
of the hooks to determine their condition for continued use.inued
