Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Employees were exposed to crushing injuries from working under a 24 inch steel pipe suspended from a Caterpillar 950 Side Boom Tractor that had the hook looped through the collett attachment point back into the wire rope to which the hook was connected. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure that no employees work under the load and that the load is attached to the hook by means of slings or other devices.
