Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:
a) A serious falling hazard while using the single point suspension
power climber man hoist (Waco model 8205-E99) in the North Mechanical
shaft at l-11 in that a safety belt attached to a life line or
adequate means was not being used.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is to wear a proper safety belt and attached lanyard
with rope grab to the life line.
