Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:
a) The hazard of fire or explosion on or about 9/8/7 at Bubba's Stop &
Shop, Highway 25 South, Montevallo, Alabama, when the fuel filter was
to be replaced during routine maintenance for a gasoline dispenser
unit using an improper procedure.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is to always turn off all power at master panel
before any repair or adjustment as called for in the manufacturer's
guide for gasoline dispensing systems.
