Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:
a) The hazard of a collapsing roof truss system which had been erected,
thus exposing employees to falling trusses and/or falling from
collapsing trusses, such roof truss system not having been adequately
braced relative to the amount, size and location(s) of braces to
prevent collapse.
One feasible and acceptable method of abatement, among others, would be
the installation of the trusses in accordance with the recommendations
of BWT-76, "Bracing Wood Trusses", prepared by the Truss Plate
Institute.
