Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Employees working at Bennett & Kahnweiler Asset Management Company 1 North State Street, were exposed to the hazards of falling into elevator shafts and/or being struck by elevator cars, when bypassing elevator door interlocks. Among others, a feasible and useful method to abate these hazards is to prohibit the use of the manual elevator and to require employees to use the automatic elevators.
