Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the possibility of digital amputation/crushing. a) On or about 02-15-89 and at times prior to, employees were exposed to the possibility of crushed or amputated fingers when operating the Milford Rivet machine, model 2.56 revision 1, serial number 888, that would cycle when turned on. One feasible method of abatement, among others, would be to fit the machine with the solenoid kit offered by the manufacturer since 1972.
