General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to striking/crushing injuries. a) On or about 9/9/88 and at times prior to, employees were exposed to serious physical harm while erecting the wooden roof system on buildings six (6) and seven (7) when excessive construction loads were permitted to be temporarily stored on the partially erected roof trusses. Loads and load placement exceeded truss manufacturers recommendations. One feasible method of abatement, among others, would be to follow the truss manufacturers recommendations and limit the construction load to eight (8) sheets of plywood on any pair of trusses, placed adjacent to the supports.
