Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees due to exposure to fire and smoke: (a) McCrory Store, Store #211, Smithaven Mall, Lake Grove, NY; Employees did not receive training on how to evacuate or escape from the store in a fire or other emergency nor were they afforded an opportunity to participate in fire drills; on or about 5/12/91. ABATEMENT NOTES: Among other methods, one feasible method to eliminate or to materially reduce this hazard is to enforce the pre-existing McCrory Corporation plan contained in the McCrory Operations Manual, (Volume II, Section 2014), "Emergency Precautions".
