Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:
a) Employees working in the area of the #19 mixer, Ross mixer, Bottle
line loading operation, the stacking stations for the Elgin can
filler, Dirks and Diel bottle filler lines, the Cherry Burrell tube
filler line and the shipping and receiving Department were exposed to
the hazard of strains and sprains due to the lack of training andthe
lack of implementation of engineering and administrative controls.
Useful and feasible methods of correction of these hazards would be to:
a) Train the employees in the following:
1) The risks of lifting.
2) Lifting Biomechanics.
3) Musculoskeletal considerations.
4) Individual self-risk assessment.
5) Handling skils: posture, movement, timing.
6) Handling aids.
b) Through the use of engineering controls such as the following:
1) Selection and training of workers.
2) A physical assessment of the workers.
3) Job rotation.
c) Through the use of administrative controls such as the following:
1) Selection and training of workers.
2) A physical assessment of the workers.
3) Job rotation.
