General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Roof trusses installed on or about November 21, 1986, were not adequately braced to prevent the tursses from collapsing laterally and downwardly, exposing employees installing the trusses to falls from elevations of some 15 feet and other employees from being struck or crushed by falling trusses. Among other methods, one possible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install trusses in accordance with the Truss Plate Institute, Incorporated, "Bracing Wood Trusses - 1976", as required by blueprints.
