Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) The 75 ton, 108 Link Belt crane operator who operates the machinery which picks up scrap and transfers the scrap to the shredder is exposed to flying metal pieces ejected from the shredder. Openings on the sides and/or rear of the cab permitted entry of flying material which struck the crane operator. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure that all openings to the crane cab are covered with shatterproof material.
