Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) In the service area, employees were required to work under lifts at bays 1 & 2 which did not have automatic safety devices having a safety factor of 3 (based on the rated load capacity) to hold the lift in the fully extended position at rated load capacity. A feasible method for correcting the hazard is to provide and/or maintain a safety device on each lift as described in ANSI B 153.1-1974 section 3.1.10.
