Section 5(a)(1) provides: "Each employer shall furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees." a. Medical laboratory technicians and phlebotomist who work in the medical laboratory and draw blood from patients were exposed to the hazards of being infected by HBV/HIV through possible direct contact with blood or other body fluids. Feasible and useful abatement methods reducing this hazard, among others, is: Hepatitis B Vaccination. The facility's IC policy regarding hepatitis B vaccinations shall address all circumstances warranting such vaccinations and shall indentify employees at substantial risk of directly contacting body fluids. All such employees shall be offered hapatitis B vaccinations free of charge in amounts and at times prescribed by standard medical practices.
