Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazard that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to sustaining broken bones as a result of wire rope cable failure during winch operation: A) Hower Sanitation - Trash truck, license YK26336, winch with a twelve (12) inch section of wire rope cable smashed, on or about June 12, 1990. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and useful abatement method to correct this hazard is to inspect wire rope daily and to remove damaged rope from service.
