Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an amputation hazard: a) Building #1 - the foot pedal used to activate a George A. Ohl Press brake was not guarded. Observed 04/14/93. b) Building #1 - a foot pedal that activated a Ryerson and Kling Brothers Dual Shear and Punch Press serial no. 3542 was not guarded. Observed 04/15/93. ABATMENT NOTE: One feasible method of abatement would be to install a guard over each foot pedal to prevent the unintended activation of the press brake.
