Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognizd hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a serious crushing hazard while being permitted to do repair work on elevator car #7 without the use of barricades and warning signs: a) Elevator Car #7, Clymer Tower Section - employees in the area were exposed to being struck and crushed by elevator car that did not have barricades and warning signs at the entrance. Observed 3/9/90 ABATEMENT NOTE: A FEASIBLE METHOD OF ABATING THE HAZARD IS TO ERECT BARRICADES AND WARNING SIGNS IN COMPLIANCE WITH ELEVATOR INDUSTRY FIELD EMPLOYEES SAFETY HAND BOOK 1986 EDITION, OTIS ELEVATOR CO.
