Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to serious fires from accidental contact of gas piping by lift trucks: (a)LOCATION: FURNACE ROOM. Gas supply piping on Gas Furnace # 1 was exposed to contact by lift truck operating in the narrow aisleway between furnaces. A feasible means of abatement could be the installation of a floor guard to prevent lift trucks from hitting the gas piping. An additional means of abatement could be the installation of a low pressure shutoff valve that would close the gas supply if there was a sudden drop in the gas line pressure.
