Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
serious physical injury during the erection of wood frame walls without
first assuring that the method of erection was adequate and safe.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard would be to use a wall jack system which would
prevent the wall from falling in either direction:
a) Jobsite: Employees were lifting a wood frame gable end wall without
means to protect employees in the event the wall falls, on or about
June 15, 1989.
