Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
a potential fall hazard:
a) 6th Floor S.W. Roof - two employees hoisting stone using an
outrigger scaffold at the edge of the roof where the parapet
measured 6 inches high were not wearing fall protection exposing
them to a fall hazard of approximately 24 feet.
Abatement Note: One feasible and useful means of abatement would be to
require the employees to wear safety belts and lanyards while performing
this operation.
