Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death of serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard of fifteen feet while using portable aluminum ladder which did not extend at least three feet past the roofline, on or about August 9, 1989. General methods of abatement in these circumstances would include, but are not limited to: 1) Extend the ladder three feet past the roof. 2) Add handholds to the area above the roofline to use when getting on and off the ladder.
