Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falls of approximately 20 feet to ground level: a) Column Line 8 and 9 - Employee welding on a bar just 20 feet above ground was not tied off with his safety belt/lanyard to prevent him from falling. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable actions to correct this hazard include the use of standard railings, safety belts, life lines, lanyards, etc.
