Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The

employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to workplace violence:
(a)Deer Park Dairy Barn Store #306, employees were exposed to the hazard of
workplace violence such as robberies with weapons, threats of violence,
assaults, and batteries, especially during nighttime hours;  on or about
4/21/94.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard
is:
1. Train all employees in robbery procedures and conflict management as
well as
emergency procedures
2. Prevent entry of unauthorized persons into the store by installing
doors
with
pass through windows
3.Improve lighting around the store
4.  Increase visibility from the street to inside the store ("fishbowl
effect")
5. Increase visibility from the store to the surroundings, such as the
street, either
through the use of windows, convex mirrors, or closed circuit TV
6.  Install and maintain silent holdup alarms in strategic locations
7.  Install and maintain video surveillance equipment
8.Limit amount of cash on hand by installing and maintaining drop safes,
and
advertise this fact with prominent signs at the store
9.Encourage employees to report suspicious activities, persons, or
vehicles to the
local police department
10.Conduct regular physical security surveys to identify and correct
problems
