Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an approximate fall hazard: a) Entry to Production Floor - A 9-step mobile ladder stand was used to gain access through the trap door in the ceiling for maintenance purposes, the ladder did not extend at least 3 feet above the landing surface. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to use a ladder that is long enough for its intended use. A ladder used to reach a walking surface must extend at least 3 feet above the landing.
