Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to ultraviolet light at levels which were in excess of those deemed safe in the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health's criteria document for protection against ultraviolet radiation: a) An employee, machine operator, working at the machine dubuit, Model 2-5-2, Serial #1801, was exposed to 3 micro W/CM2 of ultraviolet light, on or about October 20, 1992. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: 1. Provide guarding/barriers around the ultraviolet curing light source that will shield the operators and other personnel working in the areas from harmful levels of ultraviolet light. 2. Require employees working in the area to wear barrier cremes, in addition to their eye protection, to protect their exposed skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet light.
