Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to free falling tree limbs:
a) 11 West Possum Hollow Rd. - On 6/27/96 an employee who was removing
twigs under a tree being trimmed was killed when a tree limb that was cut
and
allowed to drop struck him in the head.
ABATEMENT NOTE:  Among others, one feasible means of abatement to
correct this hazard is to lower all cut limbs by means of rope. The
climber also
should have his ground people in sight before cutting to ensure that
employees are
out of the way of falling limbs.g
