Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) The Pipe Foundry at the pig bed, the method used by the employees to dump the machine ladles, turning the ladle by hand, exposed the employees to being burned by the splashing molten metal. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to weld an eve to the back of the ladle and using a chain with a hook attachment, controlling it by the crane operator, to dump the molten metal into the pig bed.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) The Fittings Department number 45 at the cement lining machine turn table. The turn table is not equipped to handle the weight of the 30 inch fittings. The turn table with the 30 inch fittings had snapped and fell causing injuries to the operator. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to provide an additional lifting mechanism, such as a hoist, or install a turn table capable of handling the 30 inch fittings.
