Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a. Wash Area, the east and west underhung cranes and monorail system: Frequent inspections were not performed exposing employees to a struck by hazard. Among other methods, one feasable and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to perform a frequent inspection of the underhung cranes and monorail system. b. Wash Area, the east and west underhung cranes and monorail system: Operators were not landing loads when leaving the cranes unattended exposing employees to a struck by hazard. Among other methods, one feasable and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to require operators to land loads when leaving the crane unattended. c. Wash Area, the east amd west underhung cranes and monorail system: The operator did not try out the upper limit switch at the beginning of each shift exposing employees to a struck by hazard. Among other methods, one feasable and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to require operators to try out the upper limit switch at the beginning of each switch. d. Wash Area, the east underhung crane and monorail system: The pendant control box controllers were not marked for identification of functions exposing employees to a struck by hazard. Among other methods, one feasable and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to have the controllers marked for the identification of functions. e. Wash Area, the east and west underhung cranes: The rated load of the crane was not marked on each side of the crane bridge exposing employees to a struck by hazard. Among other methods. one feasable and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to have the rated load of the crane marked on each side of the crane bridge.
