Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Laundry workers while sorting laundry were at risk of being exposed to HBV and/or HIV infection through possible direct contact with blood or other body fluids. Feasible and useful methods to control this hazard include but is not limited to: 1) Establish an infection control program to address circumstances warranting HBV vaccinations. 2) Identify employees at substantial risk. 3) Establish follow-up procedures after possible exposure to HIV/HBV in accordance with standard medical practices and the "Center for Disease Control" (CDC) guidelines.
