Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to musculosketal disorders(MSDs) from lifting and maneuvering 50 pound bags of starch on a daily basis: a) Employees in the #2 Tubsize Department are experiencing carpal tunnel syndrome and strains and pain to the shoulder, lower back, arm and wrist while lifting and maneuvering between 100 and 150 bags per shift, each weighing 50 pounds. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means for abating this condition include the purchasing and use of starch in super sacks as is done in other departments to eliminate the manual handling of the starch.g
