Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:
a) On or about 5/31/90 employees erecting 80' roof trusses
were exposed to the hazards of falls and/or being struck by falling
trusses or other materials due to shifting and collapse of the trusses
as a result of inadequate lateral bracing.
Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to
correct this hazard are the installation of adequate temporary
bracing (including additional diagonal bracing) as designed by a
registered Professional Engineer or the assembly and bracing of
trusses on the ground prior to placement.
