Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:
The hazards of crushing injuries and death while being required and/
or permitted to work adjacent to an unshored masonry wall 15 feet 4
inches high, and 108 feet long.  This was the south wall of the new
electronic building at North Central Technical College in Mansfield,
Ohio, on February 22, 1988.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard is:
1) To temporarily shore and brace masonry wall until the designed
lateral strength is reached, to prevent collapse due to wind and
other forces.
(Reference) ANSI -A10.9 - 1970 - "Safety Requirements for Concrete
Construction and Masonry Work."  Section 12.5, Shoring and Bracing.
"Masonry walls shall be temporarily shored and braced until the designed
lateral strength is reached, to prevent collapse due to wind or other
forces."
