MODIFICATION OF STANDARD Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) At the Slab Yard area, employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by railroad cars due to the rail cars not being chocked or properly chocked once left in the building. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method(s) to correct this hazard is: 1) Require and enforce the use of rail chokes, 2) Install and require the use of hand brakes on the rail cars. NOTE: This amended citation and the attached copy of the original citation must remain posted until the alleged violations have been corrected or for three working days, whichever is later.
