Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:
ANSI B30.20 1985 Title: Below the Hook Lifting Devices. Section 20-1.4.2
Rated Load Test. Prior to initial use, all new, altered, modified, or
repaired lifting devices were not tested to insure compliance with this
standard:
a) Prior to initial use, the sheet grabber in the shear department, had
not been tested under the direction of a qualified person and a
written report furnished confirming the load rating of the lifter.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method would
be to follow the steps listed in ANSI B30.20-1985 Section 20-1.4.2 to
obtain a rated load capacity for the lifter.
