Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Saftey and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Employees were exposed to potential crushing/amputation injuries from unexpected machine movement while servicing and or maintaining equipment such as when resetting pallet conveying chain. Among other methods: One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct these hazards is to establish and enforce an adequate lockout/ tagout of energy sources procedure. To assist with the essential elements of this lockout/tagout procedure, a copy of 29 CFR 1910.147 "Control of Hazardous Energy Source (Lockout/Tagout); Final Rule", which becomes effective on January 2, 1990, is attached to this citation.
