Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing, fractures, or amputation to the feet: a) due to Speed Queen scissor lift when receding into open floor pit. Feasible Means of Abatement: 1. Install metal/rubber edge guard to warn/prevent employee(s) foot exposure. 2. Remove swivel capabilities of the Speed Queen lift and install angel metal and/or rubber bellows, such as that being manufactured into the new lifts. 3. Install electric eye beam, to prevent lift activation, when employee(s) enter into the exposure area.
