General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) On or about September 6, 1991, in the Ford Van, the Honda GX340 Cat Pump Gasoline Powered Engine exhausts directly into the van compartment. When the pump is running the van fills with exhaust and carbon monoxide creating a toxic atmosphere which employees are potentially exposed to when they enter the van with the pump running. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement to correct this hazard is to attach an exhaust pipe to the pump that directs the exhaust to the outside of the van either through the side wall or the van roof.
