Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: The hazard(s) of being struck by a falling load while using the 7 1/2 ton overhead crane, SN5384, located on the back dock. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard include but are not limited to: 1. Establish a maintenance program based on the manufacturer's recommendations. 2. Conduct complete periodic inspections at least yearly. 3. Conduct monthly inspections of hoist chains and hooks, and document findings. 4. Clearly mark identification of functions on the pendant control box.
