Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Being struck by falling objects while working under suspended loads. On or about March 11, 1994, an employee was assigned and permitted to remove parts from a wrecked vehicle while it was suspended from the hook and wire rope of a boom truck. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure, through instruction, training, and supervision that when ever it is necessary for an employee to be under a vehicle to remove parts or for other purposes, the vehicle is supported in a positive manner such as on an automobile lift, jack stands or other solid support.
