Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of rotating parts of a pipe threading machine. a)IN THE WORKPLACE, Boiler room, on or about 06-20-97, employees operate a cord connected power drive, Rigid, pipe thread machine without the use of a momentary contact device to control power input to the machine as required by ANSI B208.1-1982, safety requirement for pipe tools, cord connected, section 4.4. Employees are exposed to the hazard of being pulled into and crushed by rotating parts. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install a momentary foot switch. The foot switch shall be guarded to prevent unintended operation. Refer to 29 CFR 1910.217(b)(4)(i,ii,ii,iv). Abatement verification is needed for this item.
