What this inspection record means

OSHA opens inspections for many reasons — routine scheduling under a national or local emphasis program, an employee complaint or referral, or a follow-up after a reported injury. Opening or conducting an inspection is not itself an allegation or a finding that this employer broke any rule; any findings appear as the citations listed below, and citations can be contested, reduced, or withdrawn.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
a potential explosion hazard due to improper storage of the incompatible
chemicals of an Organo Peroxide and Acetone. These products were
observed on or about 09/06/90 being stored adjacent to each other in the
outside storage building located northeast of the spray up/lay up
building. Employees were exposed to the risk of chemical burns and/or
smoke inhalation in that separate storage areas or a substitution of
chemicals had not been established.
Among other methods, two feasible and acceptable abatement methods to
correct this are:
a) Providing separate storage areas for the Organo Peroxides and
Acetone; or,
b) Substituting the Acetone with a more compatible solvent such as
as Ethyl Acetate or Methyl Ethyl Keton consideration
