Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) The hazard of being struck by the fabric reroll mechanism assembly while positioned beneath the assembly to thread fabric through the raised rollers. Critical items affecting safety and the operations, such as the "shop made" safety latching device, pressure guage and airlines were not being inspected or tested by operators or other personnel. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to develop and enforce safe work practices, to include visual checks of critical items before entering equipment danger zones.
