Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Dyehouse - employees work daily with pressure vessels equipped with safety valves that have not been inspected in several years, nor are they positioned to discharge at a safe distance from the employees. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is... 1) Develop a scheduled inspection program (for example-ANSI/NB-23) 2) Position release point for steam so that employees cannot be affected in the event of a release.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Dyehouse - employees were exposed to benzidine-based dyes and azo dyes which carcinogens/mutagenic warnings. (For ex: Direct Brown BCW, Atlantic Disperse, Black JS, Orcamine Brown 3GN, Atlantic Fast Rdd. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazards is: 1) Provide showere/lavoratories in the dyehouse and assure that an employee who gets dye on the skin immediately washers it off. Assure that employees who work in the dyehouse shower at the end of the workshift. 2) Provide change rooms designed to separate street clothing from work clothing. 3) Provide annual medical surveillance that emphasises the uninary tract and hepatic systems; urine cytology, routine urinalysis and examination of urine sediment, liver and renal function tests. 4) Provide bi-monthly biological monitoring in the form of anaylsis of benzidine and monoacetylbenzidine in the urine.
