Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of up to 40 feet falls from elevated work platforms: a) Dry rock storage building (mid-section northside) Employees were working from an elevated work platform which was not secured to the forklist. Also the mid-rails were missing from the guardrails of the platform and employees were not tied off while working from the platform on or about 9-13-90. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: 1) Properly secure the platform to the forklift. 2) Install midrails on the guardrails of the platform. 3) Strict enforcement of the use of fall protection equipment while using the platform.
