Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling automotive lifts: (a) On or 10/2/92, employee(s) were subject to being struck and/or crushed by lifts number 2, 3 and 4 due to the safety latch not being operational on number four, and no safety latch on lifts 2 and 3, when they were fully extended. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to repair the safety latch on pipe number four and install safety latches on number 2 and 3. Reference is made to American National Standard B 153.1-1974, paragraphs 3.1-10, 6.1 and 6.3. (b) On or about 10/2/92, employee(s) were subject to being struck and/or crushed by lifts number 2 and 3, due to cylinders leaking when fully extended. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable method of abatement is to repair the leaking cylinders in lifts number 2 and 3. Reference is made to American National Standard B153.1-1974, paragraphs 3.1-10, 6.1 and 6.3.
