Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that a fall hazard was created by altering a sissor lift without the manufacturers permission: (a) On the south side of the building plasterers were working on a scaffold section that had been attached to a snorkelift scissorlift, then elevated to the work area between 17 to 20 ft. above the ground. Among other methods; one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to use equipment according to manufacture's instruction manual or obtain written permission from the manufacturer prior to modification or alteration per ANSI A92.6 - 1960 - section 7.16, Self Propelled Elevating Work Platforms.
