Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards: (a) A fall hazard while performing maintenance on bridge cranes, approxiamtley 20' from ground level on an unsecured pallet attached to the forks, of a Clark industrial truck i the weld shop area. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to provide a safety platform secured to the lifting carriage and/or forks equipped with a standard railing at a vertical height of 42" as recommended by ANSI B56.1-1988. In addition, an operator must remain at the controls while personnel are working on the platform.
